I actually finished this about a month ago, which is why I'm reviewing an INDEPENDENCE DAY anthology in September. Of course, I feel like September is one of our least patriotic months, and needs a bit of a pick-me-up. Why should July get all the glory?
I mean, if you think of it, all the later months get the shaft. 1) they all take place in the winter (if you're in the top half of the world) and 2) They have the lamest names. I mean, September begins that long stretch of month's names where those lameos in ancient times just gave up and started numbering them.
Hey guys, I'm totally going to name the months! Lessee, Janus, the awesome god of... um, being a two face, and Mars, you know, for war! And I'll even name one for Cesear.... it'll be awesome!
January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August... ugh. Forget it, what number am I on now? I'm bored. Seven? Whatever. Seven, eight, nine, ten. Done.
So that's the story of the months. September, in addition to being really hard to spell, just means seven. You know, the number. I mean, people, that's lazy work.
So, back to this anthology. I like time-travel stories, and we've got a bunch of them here. Including one of my own. Mine is really long. I think I was thinking that if I made it long enough, people would just assume it had to be good, because why would people waste so many words telling a story that's bad?
So, I made it long, so long that my story is about the same length as the rest of the book. I did find a bunch of typos though. Dammit. Also, well, it was really long. And when I read it, I had no idea what the hell was happening. Something about a guy... um, time travel, there may be guns involved.
Shit. I don't know.
Whatever. Quit looking at me all weird.
Oh, no rating because, duh, I have a story in it. Although not credited anywhere I can see in the tags, I promise I'm in there. Unless they just sent me a copy with my story added so as not to hurt my feelings. That's totally a thing that would happen to me.
Regardless, it seems weird for me to comment on the quality of the larger anthology. I've been compromised.
