I appreciate Ms. Steiner bearing witness in this memoir. It was clear and readable. Her account is very honest, it is meant to tell what happened and not glorify its author, and she does not conceal her anti-heroic acts. That gives this memoir extra depth. What the nazis did in WW2 was so horrifying; the "details" that make it so (e.g., making soap out of human remains) could not be believed and would be forgotten but for memoirs like this.
