All these books have a standard prologue entitled "For Teachers and Parents" and this is what it says about these stories: "The themes (of the stories) are relevant to their (children) needs and from these can be drawn lessons, delight and pleasure, and other ways of appreciation of Philippine literature."
Let me see how this book fares (in my humble opinion):
Theme: Cleanliness can save your life.
1) Dirt can make you appealing to giants.
2) Divide and conquer.
Delight and Pleasure:
The king cannot defeat the giant so he threatens the baby giant who wails like there is no tomorrow.
Other Ways of Appreciation of Philippine Literature:
That Filipinos of the olden times believe in the existence of scary giants from the mountains. The illustrations are very apt to the barrio setting.
Overall: Theme is great but the plot is too thin.
