It's Brother Bear's birthday and when he receives his new racing bike from Mama and Papa, Sister is terribly jealous. Mama Bear tells her that she gets to have Brother's old bike. Although, that is not what she is interested in. She wants a brand new big bike like brother.Mama tells Sister about the Green-Eyed monster getting her and that she needs to not be so jealous. Sister has a dream about the Green-Eyed Monster convincing her to ride Brother's new bike and she accidentally crashes and breaks the new bike. Sister learns that instead of letting jealousy and envy overtake her, she should be happy for what she has. Jealousy is a very common issue with children. When one child gets a new toy, another child will most likely be overcome with jealousy. Because this issue is so common, this book is a very good way to teach children the lesson that Sister learned. Being happy for what you have is important and it is also important to be verycareful not to let the figurative “Green-Eyed Monster” to get you. It may be important in some classrooms, depending on the age, to clarify that there is not a real monster that will get you for being jealous.
