Red Men and White PDF ebook download • Two of American writer Owen Wister’s best-selling short story collections are bound together in this Kindle book: Red Men and White & The Jimmyjohn Boss and Other Stories (1900)

Red Men & White (1894-1895)
Wister’s wry wit is evident in this collection of western tales. Unlike other authors who emulate the West through romantic stories about Wild West adventure, Wister’s writing is a realistic portrayal of life on the frontier and the often self-interested men who inhabited the land – in short, it is the good, the bad and the ugly of the Wild West.
"A Pilgrim on the Gila” is about a gold robbery from an Army paymaster and a fixed jury. The two cowboys in “A Pilgrim on the Gila,” are far from being portrayed as the “good guys”. Instead they are among the agents who hold up the paymaster and make off with the strongbox.
“Little Big Horn Medicine” is a look at the U.S. Army and the men who attempted to inject law into a lawless frontier and Indian uprisings.

The Jimmyjohn Boss and Other Stories (1900)
This is another classic collection of western short stories from Wister, who mixes humor and raw action with his majestic prose.

About The Author
Owen Wister (1860 – 1938) was an American writer and "father" of western fiction, born in Germantown, the northwestern part of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Owen Wister’s father was a wealthy physician and his mother, Sarah Butler Wister, was the daughter of British actress Fanny Kemble.
He attended schools in Switzerland and Britain, and studied at St. Paul's School in Concord, New Hampshire and Harvard University, where he was a classmate of former U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt. Wister began writing in 1891 and spent his summers in the American West, including his first trip to Wyoming in 1885. Wister was fascinated with the culture, lore and terrain of the region. His fiction inclined towards the western frontier and his most notable remains the 1902 novel The Virginian, the story of a cowboy who is a natural aristocrat, set against a highly mythologized version of the Johnson County War.

Wister's story collections Include:

The Jimmyjohn Boss and Other Stories (1900)
